Kin honour slain peace maker
By ANDREA LANTHIER -- Ottawa Sun
On the second anniversary of a tragic fight that stole away the life of Andrew Moffitt, friends and family gathered to remember a man who sacrificed his life for another.
"It's important because Andy should never be forgotten for what he did," said Moffitt's mother, Paulette, who wore a pin over her heart that bore the face of her son.
Ottawa University student Andrew Moffitt was stabbed trying to break up a fight in front of Coyote's Restaurant. He died an hour later.
The family now gathers annually at Sacre-Coeur Church to celebrate him.
"This is our Christmas now, from now on, on Dec. 23 we will celebrate Andy's life," Paulette said.
Yesterday's ceremony began with Moffitt's brother Michael, 11, carrying his brother's photo atop red roses.
Michael has now taken it upon himself to preach the dangers of knives and weapons to his schoolmates.
"Andy would be here today if a knife was never pulled," he said quietly.
Police charged Henry Roger Danninger with second-degree murder.
