Kin find comfort in scholarship

The family of a murdered University of Ottawa computer engineering student has immortalized his name through a scholarship.
Andrew Moffit, 23, was stabbed through the heart while trying to break up a bar fight in December 1998. Since then, his family has focused their grief on raising more than $75,000 towards a scholarship fund -- an amount matched by the province.
"It's something we can use to remember Andy," said Moffit's brother Rod, 29. "It's helping us a lot."
The first two scholarships, worth $2,000 each, were awarded yesterday to Ian Breukelaar, a fourth-year electrical engineering student and Rohit Bahl, a second-year software engineering student.
"It's one of the biggest honours I think I have received and I think will be receiving in my life," said Bahl.
Moffit's mother, Paulette, was thankful some good has stemmed from the tragedy. "Andy's dream is going to be coming out in (the recipients of the scholarship). He didn't die in vain."
Henry Roger Danninger is charged with second-degree murder.
