Student posthumously awarded medal for bravery

Andrew MoffittFormer University of Ottawa student Andrew Moffitt, who was killed on December 23, 1998, has been posthumously awarded the Governor General's Medal for Bravery. Moffitt died on his way to hospital after he was stabbed while trying to break up a fight at a local restaurant-bar. On September 14, the Moffitt family held a ceremony at Andrew Moffitt's gravesite in Brockville to present the medal.

Friends and family of Andrew Moffitt set up a memorial scholarship in 2001 in the name of the former computer engineering student. This scholarship fund provides financial assistance to engineering students demonstrating qualities that Andrew Moffit possessed: love of life, consideration for others, interest in technology and sports. In 2002-2003, the fund provided four scholarships valued at $1,500 each.
